Seventeen-year-old
Faith is an unappreciated drudge in her bad-tempered, harsh, widowed ma’s
boarding house. Home-schooled, her only friends are Walter Finch, who
relinquished his dream of breeding horses to work in his father’s general
store, and his sister. Her ma ‘has a thousand rules, too many for her to keep
up with. She must be careful in a land that abounds with scoundrels,
hardworking miners and bush wackers, who, according to her ma ‘were waiting to
rob, or worse ravish every female. Faith senses there is something not quite
nice about her secretive mother. Walt feels deep down that Faith is not happy
with her life. She must decide whether to accept an opportunity to change her
circumstances. I admire Faith who is intelligent and resourceful. Regardless of
adversity she battles on until she finds the happiness she longed for. I
enjoyed this novel by talented author, Ms. McGill and look forward to reading
her next release.
