Coming soon--Sweet Bitterness

Coming in January 2022

First love can be wonderful—albeit at times tortuous. Rarely does it last, and at times is so painful it brings nothing but heartache. Often it is the girl who has a passion but in the case of twenty-year-old Tony, his feelings for seventeen-year-old Melody become what can probably be termed an obsession. An obsession that stays with him as years pass and their lives go in different directions.

Sadly, often a third party steps into the mix, diverting the course of the lives of young lovers. In Melody’s case, it is her father who shatters the hopes and dreams of this pair. Not only is Melody’s parent an overbearing and obstinate man but he happens to be an unprincipled police inspector who does not hesitate to use the power his position entitles him to exercise.

Shattered by the events that ensue, Tony takes off to the other side of the world and makes a successful life in Australia. Always the dream of returning to England and claiming his lost love stays with him. Many obstacles crop up, making his dreams seem impossible. Meanwhile Melody is left to face a loveless life forced on her by her father where escape to happiness drifts further away as the years pass.

The local dancehall contained the usual Saturday evening crowd. For a while, Tony watched a vision of perfection as she danced—not with everyone who asked her, he noticed. The two mates he came along with had disappeared, probably gone off with the girls they danced with earlier, but Tony suddenly had no desire to hold anyone in his arms but this raven-haired beauty with the figure of a goddess. Dare he ask her—his world tilted when she accepted his offer. Above average height himself, she reached his chin and felt like a delicate porcelain doll as he pulled her as close as he dared.
After dancing without speaking, apart from exchanging names, the bandleader announced that they were taking a break, so Tony asked tentatively, “Can I interest you in a drink?” To his great delight, she accepted with a nod.

"The history is so interesting and at times weird.  Like no bathrooms in homes.  Having to use public baths once a week.  Spit baths the rest of the time.  Shaking my head…Okay, so I wouldn’t have made it during that time but the other parts of the story, I totally understood.  I watch too many documentaries in regards the WWII, so I was aware of the times during the Blitz.  What was intriguing to me is how the women dealt with everyday life and then wondering if their loved ones would ever come home.  Not to mention what happens when they do come home.

Chloe is a great character.  She never lost her identity throughout the whole book.  She always knew where she came from and just learned to live with it.  However, I was a little perplexed while reading the book about the “hook” to see her try to get home.  Most time travel books do that but Ms. McGill didn’t do that all with this one.  This book is more about the family saga that follows Chloe and the rest of her life.  Bill is a dream but I could see why he just wanted everything swept under the rug in the beginning.  There was a scene that just didn’t sit right with me in regards to the photo album but in the end, it made sense.

This is a sweet/sensual love story that transcends time.  It’s historical, the pacing and flow are phenomenal, the characters are a breath of fresh air, and did I mention that there is a dog, too?"        Harlies Books

From one crazy period in history to another.

Whisked by some unseen force from the Covid-19 ridden world of 2020 in Australia, to an equally horrific time in the past, carer Chloe Simpson finds herself in North London during the Blitz of 1940. Could be that Chloe became too immersed in the stories related to her by Minnie, a woman in the Australian nursing home where she cares for elderly people? Stories about the dreadful days and nights endured during the Blitz.

Engrossed in the stories surrounding photographs in 98-year-old Minnie Clacton’s cherished album, back in time Chloe meets up with the young Minnie plus her own Great Great Grandmother Aggie.

In the midst of an air raid, Chloe is discovered, wet and confused, by a man and his dog. A man and his canine companion who coincidentally appeared prominently in the photo album alongside the young Minnie and Aggie. Did Chloe simply answer the call of Destiny?

~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last year when the fear of an epidemic began to take hold of the world—and in general, my part of the world being Australia, I began to compare the coming disaster with the many other disasters that have befallen our planet. Being an author, of course I began to work out ways of how to create a world where people were fighting to survive. Then the idea struck of what would a character do if she was whisked back in time from one crazy period in history to another.
My family lived through WW11 and as the youngest; I heard stories as I grew about the war years and how life was back then. Thus When Destiny Calls was born. Why not send my heroine back in time to when the Blitz was at its worst in Britain. My family lived in North London and that is where I spent my early years so knew the area well. My one and only remaining sister will be 99 this year, so was therefore about 18 in 1940, just like Minnie in my story.
Chloe my main character cares for the old Minnie in an Australian nursing home. Minnie’s one remaining treasure is a photo album, which contains all her memories of her years as a young woman during and after the war, so it was inevitable that Chloe, who listened to Minnie’s many stories of how they all coped back then, would land back there. Chloe meets up with all the characters from Minnie’s album, and specifically a man named Bill who owns a dog called Tiger. Was Chloe, by some strange quirk of Fate, called back in time to meet her destiny?
“Tricia writes an intensely intriguing time travel that has you reading page after page to unravel the mystery of how Chloe, who lives in Australia in 2020, ends up in war torn London in the 1940’s. It’s a history; a love story; a family saga with past and present so carefully entwined you can’t predict the ending.” Barbara Baldwin--author of Spinning Through Time.
Deborah Brent for Romantic Times 5 stars
“This is a remarkable book, and Ms. McGill is an outstanding writer. There is rich historical detail of everyday medieval life, and characters who stepped right out of the annuls of history.
I love time travel books, and this one is exceptional.”
5 STARS LOVE STORIES WITH A RUGGED HIGHLANDER by Minnie
Anything with a highlander or a man in a kilt and I am hooked. The Laird takes us back to the days when the highlands were unspoiled and the men who lived there were just as rugged.
5 stars By S.A. Martin
"The Laird" is a wonderful time travel romance that draws the reader in and makes her feel she is there. Exceptionally researched and well written, the story centers around Andrew and Elizabeth, who travel to Scotland to visit his uncle before the man dies. Andrew is serious and all business, while Elizabeth is more fun-loving but also well-versed in Celtic lore and fluent in Gaelic. The story starts in the present, but while going over items in the attic of the castle, they find themselves flung back to the 11th century. If that isn't bad enough, Travis, the lord of the castle, is a spitting image of Andrew and takes a liking to Elizabeth. But how can they return to their own time, to their own country of Australia? If they can't get back, they are stuck in the 11the century.
First look at my latest cover--When Destiny Calls, a Time-Travel/Saga
Due for release in June.
"Definitely 5 stars! -- An intensely intimate portrayal of life in war-torn London."
"Tricia McGill has a definite hit with “When Destiny Calls”! She has woven a treasure trove of history into an intriguing story of a woman in London during WWII. Everything from the nightly bombing raids and rationing to the tidbits about cinemas, clothes and lack of indoor plumbing will have you feeling like you live right next door to the McGraces. There’s just one problem. Chloe lives in 2020 in Australia yet because of an accident, finds herself struggling to adjust to life in 1940’s London. It’s a history; a love story; a family saga with past and present so carefully entwined you can’t predict the ending.
Any book that keeps me up half the night is a hit! Especially when the remainder of the night has me dreaming about the characters and wondering what will happen next."
1. Mystic Mountains:
5 stars “Harsh Reality, Convict and Love” Rosemary Morris on July 31, 2019
“Isabella O’Shea arrives in Botany Bay, the penal colony in Australia after enduring prison in England and a long voyage. While she waits to be assigned to a master, Tiger Carstairs, whose ambition is to own land beyond the Blue Mountains and marry a wealthy, upper class girl to advance in society, notices Isabella. Handed over to Tiger a handsome, wealthy Englishman Isabella detests him. She hates “the gentry with their fine clothes, finicky manners and hearts as cold as stone”.
Isabella and Tiger are proud and stubborn and as time passes refuse to admit they are attracted to each other. Born into a poverty- stricken family Isabella knew what it was to be part of a close, loving family. In this foreign land she misses them unbearably which leads to tragic consequences. Ms McGill reveals the degradation suffered by convicts, the bawdy women and lusty men. She also reveals the courage needed to survive and advance in a harsh land. I enjoyed Mystic Mountains which is well-researched and very well written and look forward to reading the sequel.”
2. Distant Mountains:
5 stars cp 56 Great Series
Love It, now reading the rest. Enjoyed the follow up book. Love at first sight and continued throughout. Easy read and history includes convicts hard time in early 1800. Worth reading both books. Elle
3. Challenging Mountains:
5 stars Diane Scott Lewis “Exciting Australian Adventure”
Set in 1840s Australia, a land fraught with hardship, Ms. McGill writes a well-researched story of adventure and romance. Jo and Tim forge a life in this wild land, overcome many dangers as the author weaves in the settling of New South Wales. I enjoyed learning about the history of Australia. This is book three of the Settlers series but can be read as a stand-alone.
4. Annie's Choices:
5 stars:An engaging historical set in Australia Susan Verified Amazon Purchase.  “Ms. McGill pens an excellent 1800’s historical story located in Australia. There’s a mix of the life and times, a coming of marriage age, incredible landscapes, a murder-mystery, an evolving romantic relationship, and family ties all wrapped in an intriguing, tastefully written gemstone of a story. If you haven’t read any of Ms. McGill’s novels, this is a good one to check out. Her Settlers series are stand-alone books, so you can start reading them in any order…and you’ll end up reading them all.”
