Sunday Snips & Stuff--Another Snip from my latest Books We Love release-A Heart in Conflict (Challenge the Heart Book 2)

BUY HERE at AMAZON
“This is a fun romp through the fashion world in Australia. Steve Tanakis is a dark, brooding hero with a fragile heart and a penchant for neutral colours. Georgie is a free spirit who surrounds herself with bright hues and lots of laughter. Their love story is touching, funny, and very moving. How Georgie wins her man and finds her dream job, and how Steve conquers Georgie’s heart, is a fast-paced, beguiling story that kept me turning pages until way after midnight.”—Review by Jennifer Macaire

“Aided by Steve’s son and Georgie’s younger sister, this mismatched pair can’t help but fall in love. A thoroughly enjoyable read filled with humor and love.”
—Marie-Nicole Ryan

Opposites attract, it is a well-known fact. At times this leads to insurmountable conflict, when at other times, sit back and watch the fireworks.
Steve Tanakis considers himself cool and calmly confident. Head of a fashion business, he needs to be in control of his life and his business decisions. He decides it is time to find a suitable mother for his son. Through with the pain that comes along with passion, he now considers what he wants is an unemotional wife, one who will fit well into his way of life.
Georgie McNamara, assistant designer in his fashion house, is flamboyant, vivacious, and gregarious, the antitheses to his idea of the perfect choice. The tiny whirlwind turns Steve's organized lifestyle upside down, somehow worming her way into his, and his son’s life, foiling all his plans to find that uncomplicated wife. Along the way Steve comes to realize there is a lot more to this bundle of feminine trouble than he first thought. Is she more trouble than he can handle?

And here's the snippet:

Georgie closed the door and flopped down onto the side of the bed. Her feet were killing her. High heels weren’t made for long walks. She’d worn the highest she possessed in an effort to bring her more up to Steve’s size. Useless because she still only reached his shoulders.

Could she consider moving to London, even if the offer of a senior position in one of the major production companies promised a mind-boggling salary?

She rubbed her forehead wearily. Could she uproot and shift here, become a part of the international scene? Her dream of a business of her own would reach fruition so much sooner if she did. But how would Lucy react to being dragged to the other side of the world? No doubt her treatment could be carried out just as successfully here.

When Steve came back, while she sat rubbing a foot, he muttered, “Why you wear those stupid shoes I’ll never know.”

“Because I like to look at people’s faces, not their belly buttons!”

He chuckled. “You exaggerate, darling.” Georgie stared at him. “If you’re worried about being able to meet me face to face, don’t bother. I like you just as you are.”

“You do?”

“I do. I’d prefer to know you felt comfortable, rather than have you walking around with a pained expression on your face like now.”

“Thanks a lot. I don’t know whether that was a compliment, an insult, or a word of advice. So, how did you get on with the tickets?”

“We’re booked on a direct flight at eight-o-clock in the morning, travelling first class. That’s all I could get.”

Georgie swallowed as he sat beside her and gently took the foot she’d been rubbing.

“Lay back. I’ll give it a massage.” He proceeded to massage her toes, then the sole of her foot. “Just relax.”

She obeyed his tender order, sighing blissfully as he worked magic. “That’s heavenly.” Closing her eyes, a lassitude filled her. Not only did he have the lips of a god and a marvelous body, he had hands that could likely perform miracles.

Sunday Snips & Stuff from Tricia McGill

Forgive me, I’ve missed the occasional Sunday Snips in the past few weeks. Life sometimes intervenes and our writing has to take a back seat while other important family matters take precedence.

Here’s a small snippet from my next release, A Heart in Conflict (Challenge the Heart Book 2), which will be coming soon from Books We Love.

And here’s my snip:

“There’s no need to be embarrassed. I have put someone to bed before, you know.” He ignored her hostile glance. “You wouldn’t have been happy if I’d left you in the chair, would you?”

That’s precisely what she would rather he’d done, or woken her so she could go home, but she said, “You’re right. Thank you for being so thoughtful. I was waiting up to see how Mrs. Fisher got on, and must have dozed off.” What in heaven’s name did he think when he found her in his domain? “I hope you didn’t think I’d been snooping...in your study. I was looking at your books.”

“And what do you think of my reading tastes?” he asked, a whisper of a smile creasing his sexy mouth.

“Boring, to be precise.” She shrugged at his pained expression. “Sorry, but your tastes aren’t a bit like mine. I mean…I don’t know what I mean,” she blundered to a halt, concentrating on her fruit.

Glancing up, she caught an odd heated look in his eyes which puzzled her. “Why is Jimmy so upset with you?”

“I have to go to Singapore. Jimmy’s displeased because I can’t go away with him for Christmas. He’ll have to go to my parents’ house, which he objects to.”

“I can see his point.” Her face burned and she groaned inwardly.

“We can’t have everything our own way,” he said. “He knows I have a business to run. He’s quite used to me going away.”

Georgie took her eyes off the fruit again to look at him, then wished she hadn’t. She was extremely aware that he’d picked her up, carried her up the stairs and placed her in bed. His hands rested easily on the table and she stared at them dazedly. Those hands had tucked her between the sheets. Feverishly hot she pushed her hair back; lifting it from the slope of her neck.

Something different for my Sunday Snips & Stuff

Absolutely miles away from romance (my usual subject matter) I found this interesting snippet among my stored notes and bits of nonsense. Thought it might interest someone. I recall it was an essay I was asked to write years ago about a famous person who discovered something unusual.

Archimedes (287-212 BC) went further than the philosophers and mathematicians who had taught before him. He carried out experiments for himself. He had an inquiring mind that sought for the answer to things that others took for granted. The King of Syracuse asked for his opinion on the crown’s etc. being made by his goldsmiths. He suspected they were mixing a baser metal with the gold.

Archimedes experimented and found that when equal weights of different metals where placed in water they no longer weighted equally. The bulkier metal does not suffer the same diminution in weight. His actual theory was that when a body was immersed in water the apparent loss of weight is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced. The king’s crown caused more water to flow out of the container than a lump of gold of exactly the same weight, proving that it contained some bulkier metal- probably silver. He coined the phrase, ‘Eureka! Eureka!’ meaning, I have found it, when he ran to the king after his discovery.

He propounded theories about the lever and other hydro-statics that were not purely accurate but nevertheless later scientists found where they were at fault and in doing so made further advances.

He discovered a means of raising water by using a screw, which was named after him. He is supposed to have invented it for draining water from a ship’s hold. The screw consisted of a coil of tubing open at both ends, wound corkscrew-wise round a shaft. When the shaft was revolved the water was scooped up and raised through the coils. The principle of the Archimedean screw is still employed in various kinds of conveyors today but is little used now for raising water.
One of its modern day uses in a sewerage plant

No doubt Archimedes would be overjoyed and proud that his invention is still being used today. Imagine inventing something that was still being used thousands of years later!
