"The history is so interesting and at times
weird. Like no bathrooms in homes. Having to use public baths once
a week. Spit baths the rest of the time. Shaking my head…Okay, so I
wouldn’t have made it during that time but the other parts of the story, I
totally understood. I watch too many documentaries in regards the WWII,
so I was aware of the times during the Blitz. What was intriguing to me
is how the women dealt with everyday life and then wondering if their loved
ones would ever come home. Not to mention what happens when they do come
home.
Chloe is a great character. She never lost her
identity throughout the whole book. She always knew where she came from
and just learned to live with it. However, I was a little perplexed while
reading the book about the “hook” to see her try to get home. Most time
travel books do that but Ms. McGill didn’t do that all with this one.
This book is more about the family saga that follows Chloe and the rest of her
life. Bill is a dream but I could see why he just wanted everything swept
under the rug in the beginning. There was a scene that just didn’t sit
right with me in regards to the photo album but in the end, it made sense.
